Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • R160 turndown

Accuracy holds from Q3/160 upward, so the low night flow on a district line still registers instead of passing unmeasured.

  • Sealed to IP68

The register is hermetically sealed, which is what keeps a meter readable after a chamber has flooded.

  • Removable measuring element

The element is pattern approved and lifts out, so re-verification does not mean taking the body out of the line.

  • Reads from any angle

The register turns through a full 360°, so the meter is set to suit the pipe and still faces the access hatch.

In detail

A Woltmann meter measures with a helical rotor set along the axis of the pipe rather than across it, which is what lets it take the volumes a bulk line carries. The R160 covers DN50 to DN200, with permanent flow rates from 40 to 630 m³/h, and connects by flange.

The R160 in the name is the turndown. The meter holds class 2 accuracy from a minimum flow of Q3/160 upward — ±5% between Q1 and Q2, tightening to ±2% from Q2 to overload. That range is the whole argument for the meter on a district line, where night flow is a small fraction of the daytime peak and a meter that stops registering at the bottom of its range is where unaccounted-for water begins.

The register is hermetically sealed to IP68 and turns through a full 360°, so the meter can be installed to suit the pipe and still be read from the access side of the chamber. The measuring element is pattern approved and removable, so re-verification does not mean cutting the body out of the line. The body is powder coated against corrosion, and the register is unaffected by external magnetic fields.

Installation is orientation-sensitive and the meter expects a settled flow profile: ten diameters of straight pipe upstream and five downstream. A remote transmission device can be fitted on request, with pulse output at 100 or 1000 litres per pulse.

Illustrative: how a meter of this type is built. This model's own materials and figures are in the table and its specifications.
  1. Register cover

Caps the register and keeps water and debris off the dial.

  2. Register

Totalises and displays the water passed.

Register type Dry dial, hermetically sealed to IP68

  3. Register seal

Seals the register housing against water ingress.

  4. Chamber cover

Bolted cover giving access to the measuring element inside the body.

  5. Helical-vane rotor

Spins with the flow along its helical vanes and drives the register through a gear train.

  6. Body

Flanged cast body that houses the rotor and carries the flow.

  7. Flange gaskets and bolts

Seal and secure the flanged joints to the pipeline.
