Overview
Why buyers choose it
-
8 µA at rest
Quiescent draw, not transmit power, is what sets a reporting meter's battery life.
-
No gateway to install
NB-IoT rides the licensed cellular network, so scattered points need no backhaul of their own.
-
−25 °C to 55 °C ambient
One specification covers an unheated hill installation and a summer plant room.
-
BAND5 850 MHz
The low band penetrates buildings and chambers better than the higher NB-IoT bands.
In detail
Battery life on a reporting meter is decided almost entirely by what it draws when it is doing nothing. A meter transmits for a second or two a day and idles for the rest, so the quiescent current sets the replacement interval far more than the transmit power does.
This meter idles at 8 µA or less and transmits at 23 dBm on NB-IoT BAND5 at 850 MHz. NB-IoT is chosen here rather than a private radio because it uses the licensed cellular network: there is no gateway to install, no backhaul to arrange and no coverage survey, which for scattered drinking water points is usually the difference between a scheme that gets built and one that stays on paper.
It is specified for water between 0 and 40 °C and for ambient conditions from −25 °C to 55 °C at up to 95% relative humidity, which covers both an unheated hill installation and a plant room in a Dehradun summer.
