Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • The reading is the dial

It reports the wheel positions rather than a pulse count, so an outage cannot leave a permanent error behind.

  • No battery to replace

The M-Bus supplies it, so the meter is not on a ten-year replacement clock of its own.

  • Cannot be wired backwards

The bus connection is non-polarity, which removes the commissioning error that costs a second visit.

  • Reads immediately on power up

Nothing to initialise or resynchronise, so a bus can be energised and read in the same visit.

In detail

Most remote-read meters count pulses and add them up. The number the system holds is therefore a running total of everything it has heard — and if it misses a pulse during a power interruption or a radio outage, the total is wrong from that moment on and stays wrong. Nothing in the system can detect it, because there is nothing to compare against.

A photoelectric direct reading register does not count. It optically reads the position of each number wheel and transmits the reading itself. If the meter loses power for a week, it comes back reporting whatever the dial now says. There is no accumulated error, because there is no accumulation.

That property is why this register is chosen for revenue metering that has to be defensible. The figure on the bill and the figure on the dial are the same figure, and an inspector standing at the meter can confirm it in one look.

This version is wired on an M-Bus, which supplies its power, so there is no battery to replace and the meter can be read the instant the bus is energised. The connection is non-polarity, meaning an installer cannot get it the wrong way round. It reads to tens of litres at an R160 turndown, is sealed to IP68, and resists light interference — a real consideration for an optical register in a chamber that gets opened.
