Overview
Why buyers choose it
-
Nothing turns, nothing wears
Accuracy is set by the electronics rather than by how many cubic metres have already gone through.
-
Registers from 0.01 m³/h
R250 turndown, so a dripping tap and a weeping cistern both appear on the bill instead of in the losses.
-
Reports itself
Readings are stored against the clock and sent over NB-IoT or 4G, so nobody has to open the box.
-
Low pressure loss
There is nothing in the flow path, so the meter costs less head than a mechanical meter of the same bore.
In detail
An ultrasonic meter times a sound pulse with the flow and against it. The difference between the two transit times gives the velocity, and there is nothing in the bore to turn — no impeller, no bearing, no gear train.
What that removes is the wear curve. A mechanical meter is at its most accurate on the day it is installed and drifts slow from then on, which is why a utility replaces meters on a rolling programme whether or not they have failed. With nothing rubbing, an ultrasonic meter's accuracy is set by its electronics rather than by its mileage.
This one covers DN15 to DN40 at an R250 turndown — it registers reliably from 0.01 m³/h, which is roughly a dripping tap — and holds class 2 accuracy. It is sealed to IP68, stores its readings against the clock, and reports over NB-IoT or 4G. Battery life is six years.
Because it measures velocity rather than displacement, it also has less pressure loss than a mechanical meter of the same bore, and it will not contaminate the supply: there is nothing in the flow path but the pipe wall.
