Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • Nothing in the flow

No impeller, no bearing, no orifice — so no wear, no jamming on debris, and almost no pressure loss.

  • Lined for the liquid

PTFE, rubber, neoprene, PFA, HDPE, polyurethane or CPVC, chosen for what actually goes through it.

  • DN10 to DN2000

One principle and one reading system from a dosing line to a raw water main.

  • It has to conduct

Water, sewage, pulp and most process chemicals yes; oils and gases no. Said plainly, before you order.

In detail

An electromagnetic meter measures by putting a field across the pipe and reading the voltage the moving liquid induces. Nothing is in the way of the flow — no impeller, no bearing, no orifice — so there is nothing to wear, nothing to jam on a rag, and almost no pressure loss to pay for the measurement.

That is why it is the meter of choice for the liquids that destroy everything else. The lining is specified to the fluid rather than the other way round: PTFE for acids, hard rubber for abrasive slurry, polyurethane where grit is the problem, PFA where the process is clean and hot. Electrodes go the same way, from standard SS316 up to Hastelloy, titanium, tantalum and platinum.

The one condition is conductivity. The liquid has to conduct, which water, sewage, pulp and most process chemicals do and oils and gases do not — for those the Metrys turbine, oval-gear and vortex meters are the answer instead.

It spans DN10 to DN2000, so the same principle and the same reading system covers a dosing line and a raw water main. Bodies are supplied for 10, 16, 25 and 40 kg/cm², up to 180 °C, with the transmitter mounted on the meter or up to a wall away from it where the pipe is somewhere nobody wants to stand.

Illustrative: how a meter of this type is built. This model's own materials and figures are in the table and its specifications.
  1. Transmitter with display

Converts the electrode signal into a flow reading and shows it.

    Display LCD in engineering units

  2. Cable entry

Where the signal and power cables enter the transmitter housing.

  3. Field coil

Generates the magnetic field the flow induces a voltage across.

  4. Electrodes

Sense the voltage induced by the flowing liquid.

Electrode material SS316 standard, Hastelloy C, titanium, tantalum or platinum

  5. Insulating liner

Isolates the measuring signal from the metal tube wall.

Lining material PTFE, rubber, neoprene, PFA, HDPE, polyurethane or CPVC

  6. Measuring tube

Carries the flow through the magnetic field.

    Body material SS304 standard, SS316

  7. Earthing rings

Reference the liquid to the pipework's earth potential.

  8. Flanges

Bolt the meter to the pipeline.

End connection Flanged, wafer or tri-clover
