Overview
Why buyers choose it
-
Readings survive a power cut
Stored rather than buffered, so an outage does not leave a hole in the billing record.
-
Mains, battery or solar
Sited where the meters are rather than where the power is.
-
Polls on a schedule
Reads the bus regularly and answers the platform’s requests between times.
-
A cable somebody can follow
In a riser a wired bus has no radio path to lose and no per-meter battery to change.
In detail
Where the meters are already on a wire, this is the box that turns them into a feed. It polls the meters on the M-Bus on a schedule, holds what it reads, and sends it over GPRS to the reading platform.
Its readings survive a power cut. That is the specification worth checking on any concentrator, because the alternative is a building whose billing has a hole in it every time the supply blinks — and the hole is always discovered later, by a customer.
It runs from mains, from a battery or from solar, which is what lets it go in a plant room, a meter cupboard or a compound without deciding the wiring first.
A wired bus is unfashionable and still the right answer in a riser: no radio path to lose, no battery in each meter to replace, and a fault that is findable because it is on a cable somebody can follow.
