Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • Registers the slow leak

Displacement measurement keeps counting at flows where a jet meter has stalled, which is where a weeping cistern hides.

  • No straight pipe needed

Flow profile sensitivity U0 D0 means no upstream or downstream straight length, so it fits a crowded manifold.

  • Horizontal or vertical

The meter is declared for both orientations, which decides the layout rather than the layout deciding the meter.

  • R160 at class 2

The turndown and the accuracy class are declared together, so the low-flow claim is one a tender can check.

In detail

A volumetric meter fills and empties a chamber of known size, counting the fills. Because it measures displacement rather than the speed of a jet, it keeps registering at flows where a jet meter has stalled — which is why it is specified where the loss that matters is a slow one.

That is the case a housing society knows well: a cistern valve weeping overnight, or a service pipe seeping under a slab. Those flows sit far below what a multi-jet meter will register, so the water leaves the network unmeasured and turns up as the gap between the bulk meter and the sum of the individual ones.

This meter covers DN15 to DN40 with permanent flows from 2.5 to 16 m³/h, at class 2 accuracy across an R160 turndown. Its flow profile sensitivity is U0 D0 — it needs no straight pipe upstream or down — and it can be installed horizontally or vertically, which between them make it the easy meter to fit into a crowded manifold.

Illustrative: how a meter of this type is built. This model's own materials and figures are in the table and its specifications.
  1. Lid

Caps the register and keeps water and debris off the dial.

  2. Register

Totalises and displays the water passed.

Register type Rotary piston, dry dial

  3. Register seal

Seals the register housing against water ingress.

  4. Chamber cover

Bolted cover sealing the piston chamber.

  5. Rotary piston

Nutating piston that displaces a fixed volume each rotation and drives the register.

  6. Strainer

Screens out grit and debris before the measuring element.

  7. Body

Houses the measuring element and carries the flow.

  8. Tailpieces / connections

Threaded couplings that join the meter to the pipework.
