Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • The second phase stays cheap

Reading hardware clips on later, so automation does not mean pulling meters out of riser cupboards.

  • Inductive, not a reed switch

No contact to wear out, and no counts to be added by a magnet held against the body.

  • Brass body

Specified where a plastic body will not survive the installation or the inspection.

  • R160 at class 2

The same declared metrology as the standard dry dial meter, so the two are interchangeable on a schedule.

In detail

This is the brass-bodied R160 multi-jet supplied with its inductive sensor already fitted. The metering is unchanged — DN15 to DN40, class 2 across an R160 turndown, 16 bar — and what is added is the ability to read it without sending anybody.

Buying meters pulse-ready is a decision about the second phase of a scheme rather than the first. Meters go in when the block is built; the reading system arrives when the budget does, often years later. A meter with no provision has to be removed to gain it, and in a riser cupboard or a buried box that cost is what quietly kills the automation phase.

The pickup is inductive, so unlike a reed switch it cannot be triggered by a magnet held against the body, and there is no contact to wear out. A non-return valve is available, and the meter is provided with wire and lead seal.

Pulse outputs of 1 or 10 litres per pulse can be specified, and an IP68 version is available for meter chambers that flood.

Illustrative: how a meter of this type is built. This model's own materials and figures are in the table and its specifications.
  1. Lid

Caps the register and keeps water and debris off the dial.

  2. Register

Totalises and displays the water passed.

Register type Multi jet, dry dial, vacuum sealed, pulse-ready

  3. Register ring / seal

Seals the register housing against water ingress.

  4. Measuring chamber insert (with jets)

Directs several jets onto the impeller from multiple sides for balanced, even wear.

  5. Impeller

Turns with the combined jets and drives the register.

  6. Strainer

Screens out grit and debris before the measuring element.

  7. Body

Houses the measuring element and carries the flow.

    Body material Brass

  8. Tailpieces / connections

Threaded couplings that join the meter to the pipework.

    Connection thread G3/4" B
