In detail
This is the domestic single-jet meter with the sensing and radio built in from the start. It reads at an R160 turndown and reports over radio, on a battery rated for at least ten years.
The sensor is non-magnetic, and that is the point of the design rather than a detail. The oldest trick on a domestic meter is a magnet held against the case, which stalls a magnetically coupled register while the water keeps flowing. A meter that senses inductively rather than magnetically does not respond to it, and reports the attempt instead.
The electronics are built as a separate assembly from the measuring element. A flat battery or a failed radio is then a module change at the wall, not a meter change requiring the supply to be cut, the connection broken and a new meter commissioned — which on a block of flats is the difference between an afternoon and a week.
It reports sensor faults and battery state without being polled, so the scheme sees a failing meter before the customer does.
