Overview
Why buyers choose it
-
Measures without cutting
Clamp-on transducers on a live pipe: no shutdown, no welding, no pressure test afterwards.
-
Three ways to fit it
Clamp-on for a survey, insertion above 80 mm, or an inline spool to DN600 — same electronics.
-
Conductivity does not matter
Oils, alcohols, acids and solvents all measurable, where an electromagnetic meter reads nothing.
-
Logs on board
Up to 8 GB on an SD card, so a survey does not need a network at the pipe.
In detail
The clamp-on form is the reason this meter gets specified. Two transducers strap to the outside of an existing pipe and the flow is read by timing an ultrasonic pulse with and against it. No cutting, no welding, no shutdown, no pressure test afterwards — which on a live main is the difference between a measurement this week and a measurement next quarter.
It reads through steel, cast iron, ductile iron, brass, copper, PVC and aluminium, and the transducer set is chosen by bore: S1 covers 15 to 100 mm, M1 covers 50 to 700 mm, and L1 reaches 4,570 mm. Where a permanent installation is wanted instead, the same electronics take an insertion probe above 80 mm or an inline spool from DN15 to DN600.
What you give up against an electromagnetic meter is a little accuracy — ±1% rather than ±0.5% — and the requirement for a reasonably clean liquid. What you gain is that it does not care whether the liquid conducts, so oils, alcohols, acids and solvents are all measurable, and there is nothing wetted to corrode.
An SD card option logs on board, up to 8 GB, so a survey meter can be left on a pipe for a fortnight and read when it comes back rather than needing a network at the pipe.
