Flow meters EMI-2000

Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Meter

An electromagnetic probe for large pipes, DN150 to DN2000, fitted through a single branch.

Pipe size range
DN150 to DN2000
Velocity range
0.1 to 10 m/s
Accuracy
±2% of full scale
Outputs
4–20 mA

Overview

Why buyers choose it

  • One probe, DN150 to DN2000

Fitted through a 2 in flanged branch, so a large main needs a tapping rather than a cut-in spool.

  • No pressure loss

Nothing crosses the flow, and there is no rotor or bearing to wear.

  • Down to 20 µS/cm

Water and other conductive liquids, corrosive or not; density and viscosity do not shift the reading.

  • ±2% of full scale

A single-point velocity reading scaled by a profile factor that depends on the bore.

In detail

An insertion meter measures velocity at one point in the pipe instead of across the whole bore. A stainless steel probe carries the coils and two SS316L electrodes. It enters the pipe through a 2 in ASA 150# flanged branch fitted with a ball valve, and the transmitter turns the local velocity into flow for the bore it has been set up for.

That is its case on large pipes. A full-bore meter at DN1000 means a spool the size of the main and a length of pipe cut out to fit it; this probe covers DN150 to DN2000 with one body and a tapping. It puts nothing across the flow, so there is no pressure loss, and it has no rotor or bearing to wear or to stop in dirty water.

The cost is accuracy. A single-point reading is scaled by a velocity profile factor that depends on the bore, from about 0.85 at DN200 to about 0.87 at DN2000, and the meter is rated at ±2% of full scale. Velocity range is 0.1 to 10 m/s.

The liquid must conduct at 20 µS/cm or more; above that, changes in density, viscosity, pressure, temperature and conductivity do not move the reading, and corrosive liquids are measured as readily as water. Media temperature is 0 to 80 °C and operating pressure up to 10 kg/cm², with 15 kg/cm² as the maximum media pressure. The coils are driven with pulsed DC at 3 Hz to hold the zero steady, and an empty pipe reads as zero flow.

The transmitter is integral as standard, or remote on request, in a die-cast aluminium housing to IP68 with an IP67 terminal box. A 16×2 LCD shows a four-digit flow rate and an eight-digit total in m³/h, LPH, LPM or other units, and damping is adjustable from 5 to 30 s. Outputs are 4–20 mA and RS485, with a reverse-flow output as an option, and it runs on 90–250 V AC at 50 Hz or 24 V DC.

  2. Cable entry

Where the signal and power cables enter the transmitter housing.

  3. Field coil

Generates the magnetic field the flow induces a voltage across.

  4. Electrodes

Sense the voltage induced by the flowing liquid.

    Electrode material SS316L

  5. Insulating liner

Isolates the measuring signal from the metal tube wall.

  6. Measuring tube
